Fifteen Minutes to Explain SEO

Written by Will on May 17th, 2007

You’ve been invited to speak at a business luncheon on the topic of SEO/SEM. You have 15 minutes to speak, and then a 5 minute Q&A. You want to get customers, or at least get your point across.

How do you do it? What subjects to you touch on? How do you present it?

If I had 15 minutes and was starting from bare bottom, I work off of the following outline:

    What is SEO
SEO is the manipulating of various factors to increase the likelihood of a webpage ranking in search engine results for relevant queries.

    Value of SEO
Explain some potential marketing benefits of ranking highly such as increased traffic, increased probability of a visitor clicking on your page in the SERPS etc.

SEO has two types of factors: onpage and off-page
On-page are elements within your site itself such as tags and textual content
Off page are elements such as incoming links, anchor text, link contextual relevance

    Conclusion
Quick wrap up briefly recovering your key points above.

Then let the Q&A flow naturally.

Giving presentations like this would probably do alot to raise the popular perceptions of SEOs, perhaps a solution to my post at [linkdrop] http://www.caydel.com/increasing-the-profile-of-the-seo-industry/ [/linkdrop]
