Get Rich Quick?

January 31st, 2007

Nope. Not here, not anywhere.

When I started learning about SEM a few years ago, the first thing I did was went and bought an ebook on it. It wasn’t the Rich Jerk, although I do have that one. Most of those eBooks are the same, but the one I bought came with a personal email of the author, one I used often. The guy was great, and answered several of my questions before I even purchased his book.

The number one question when starting out is this: If so many people are making such good money at SEM, why aren’t there more people doing it?

This answer is pretty easy. Even after thousands of years on earth, humans are still looking for that holy grail that will make you rich without much (or any!) work. And it’s still true today. It’s also true that they’ll never find it, not without lots of hard work and persistence.

If you want to make money online, you can. But you can’t just sign up for an affiliate, post a few links and expect to start banking. It won’t happen. You’re looking at some serious learnin’ first.

But with that learnin’ you can certainly bring in some money with a small investment. Hey, I’ve got 4 (hungry) kids and a busy life. I didn’t start out with a lot and I’m not retired yet, but within the first year of SEM, I’m covering a house payment and have plenty of money to spare. SEM can be a good and fun, but don’t think you’ll get rich quick.

Kick-Ass Hangout of the Year

January 29th, 2007

Actually, not just of the year, but more like of the century.

If you’re wanting to get involved in SEM or the like, I highly suggest you visit the Webmaster Radio chat room. If you’re a noob, I suggest you sit back and watch, don’t just jump in and start asking people to fix your website.

If you’ve got mIRC, set the logging to save to a local text file. Then when you’re away, simply change your nick (usually to something like nick_ or nick_away) and minimize your screen. That way people won’t try to talk to you, and you’ll log any conversations that might interest you.

And with people like SeGuru, ShoeMoney, DaveN (and plenty more) hanging out, you never know when one of those sweet nuggets of information just may pop up.

Let’s Dive Right In

January 28th, 2007

No sense saying all that crap about “Welcome to my new blog”. Let’s just get to work.

So you’ve discovered SEM, Internet Marketing, VRE, whatever you want to call it. Cool, welcome to the club. Now, how can you start making money right away?

First of all, don’t start a blog about your trials on making money. Don’t start a blog on Adsense, or SEO, or a recap of Danny’s show. Please. We don’t need any more of those.

Since you’re just starting out, most likely with no money, let me first point you to a few forums of interest. Forums are a good place to troll and learn the basics. You won’t learn the good stuff, but before you can even think about the good stuff, you’ve gotta have down the basics. I suggest you sign up for Digital Point, eWealth and maybe WickedFire. Don’t jump in and start posting unless you want a short career on those sites. Rather, troll and read and read and read. Then read some more.

Once you’ve read (I’m talking a few months here), you’re probably comfortable enough to understand what’s going on, how people are making big fortunes (don’t believe most of that) and you’ll be all fired up to make some ca$h. Sit down, buckle up and enjoy the ride.

It’ll be fun.
